It’s that time of year: cold & dreary. Sure, the season has its perks like skiing, snowboarding & fancy jackets, but it also gets a lot of people feeling low.
Let’s face it, the winter season can be tough! The days are short & cold, which has a negative impact on our mood & well-being. Especially for those who struggle with their mental health. So, we carefully curated 4 little ways to help beat the winter blues so you can get back to your best self! 🥳
1. Try physical activity
It’s time to lace up your workout shoes & get moving. At first, it’s going to be hard when all you want to do is hibernate under the blanket, but exercise really does help release incredible endorphins that are going to boost your mood drastically. Even if it’s just a 10-minute stretch, good on ya for moving 💪!
2. Call your support system
The blues can sometimes take a toll on your relationships, so it’s important to actively reach out, be open and talk about how you’re feeling with someone. Your support system is there to help reduce those feelings of isolation that you might experience in the wintertime 💜. As a courtesy, we recommend being mindful before having a serious chat with a friend or family member. We suggest asking if they are in the right headspace to talk or if they are available to listen before reaching out.
3. Seek the sunlight
A 30-minute walk outside will do wonders to blast away the winter blues. Sunlight increases serotonin production, which helps stabilise your mood & overall sense of well-being 🌞. If you can’t seek any sunlight, check with your doctor about a vitamin D supplement or even consider light therapy.
4. Try meditation
Taking a few minutes to meditate will greatly improve your mood by reducing anxiety, boosting your positivity, and providing the necessary motivation to power through the winter season. We recommend checking out the Headspace App which has been backed by research to help give you the mindfulness tools you need to help find a healthier, happier you! ☃️
We have included a “self-care” playlist that has been mindfully crafted with a unique selection of warm, toasty tunes, perfect for a cosy winter dinner party or a chill night in. Check it out on Spotify here 👈.
