What Documents Do You Need for a Cash Advance?

Need access to part of your pay before payday and wondering what information you will need to provide?
The documents needed for a cash advance depend on the service and the type of advance. You will generally need enough information to verify your identity, confirm your income and allow the provider to assess your financial circumstances.
With us, the standard account setup process involves valid Australian identification, information about your most recent wage, and access to the bank account where your salary is deposited.
Having these details ready can make the process easier, but meeting the document or information requirements does not guarantee approval.
What documents are usually needed for a cash advance?
Cash advance and wage advance services generally need enough information to confirm who you are, understand where your income comes from and assess whether the product may be appropriate for you.
Depending on the provider, you may be asked for:
Valid identification
Your contact details
Employment and income information
Recent bank transaction information
Details of the bank account receiving your wages
Information about regular expenses or financial commitments
An approved repayment method
Requirements vary between services, so always check the provider's current eligibility criteria, terms and privacy information before supplying personal or financial details.
1. Valid proof of identity
You will normally need to provide information that allows the service to verify your identity.
Depending on the provider, accepted identification could include an Australian:
Driver licence
Passport
Medicare card
With us, we currently accept an Australian open driver licence, Australian passport or Medicare card. We do not currently accept proof of age cards or learner licences.
You also need to be at least 18 years old and an Australian resident to meet our published eligibility criteria.
Make sure the details on your identification match the information you enter when creating your account. Incorrect or inconsistent information may prevent successful verification.
2. Employment and income details
A cash or wage advance service will generally need to understand where your income comes from and whether it is received regularly.
Depending on the service, you may need information such as:
Your employer
Your employment status
How often you are paid
Your usual take-home pay
Your most recent wage amount and date
How long you have been employed
Some providers may request payslips. Others use bank transaction information to identify regular wage deposits.
What income do we require?
To use our wage advance service, you need to receive regular and predictable income from employment.
Our current minimum take-home employment income is:
$450 per week
$900 per fortnight
$1,950 per month
You can be employed on a permanent, fixed-term or casual basis, provided you meet our eligibility and assessment criteria.
Centrelink or other government benefits cannot be your only source of income because our service requires regular wages from an employer.
Meeting the minimum income requirement does not guarantee that you will be approved or receive a particular advance limit. You still need to satisfy our full assessment criteria.
You can review our current eligibility information in our MyPayNow FAQs.
3. Bank account and transaction information
Bank transaction information can help a provider verify your income and understand your financial circumstances.
Depending on the assessment, transaction data may help identify:
Regular wage deposits
Your normal pay cycle
Income amount and source
Regular spending
Existing repayments
Dishonoured transactions
Other indicators relevant to affordability and suitability
With us, you need to connect the bank account where your salary is deposited. That account must currently have at least 70 days of bank transactions available when you set up your account.
As part of our application process, you are redirected to a secure third-party provider to connect your online banking. We receive read-only transaction data and do not see or store your online banking password.
The transaction information available to us can cover up to 90 days across accounts linked to the banking login. We cannot use that access to move money from your account.
Always read the relevant consent and privacy information carefully before connecting a bank account so you understand what data will be accessed and how it may be used.
4. The bank account where your wages are paid
With us, the bank account you connect needs to be the account where your regular wages are deposited.
We use this account to help confirm your employment income. If you are approved and request an advance, the funds are also deposited into this account and the scheduled direct debit repayment is taken from it.
You cannot nominate a different account simply to receive the advance.
We also require a unique bank account for each user. Some banks may not be supported by our third-party bank statement provider, so it is worth checking our current FAQs if you are unsure whether your account can be connected.
5. Contact details
You will generally be asked for basic contact information when creating an account.
For our account setup process, this includes:
Your mobile phone number
Your email address
Other identity or account processes may also require residential information.
Make sure you use contact details that you can access securely. Protect your account with a strong, unique password and never give a verification code to another person who unexpectedly asks for it.
6. Information used to assess affordability and suitability
Supplying identification and income details is only part of the assessment process.
A provider may also consider information about your financial circumstances, including regular spending, existing commitments and account behaviour.
Our assessment process considers information including your income and spending patterns, account history and repayment history to help assess affordability and suitability.
It can also identify circumstances where our product may not be appropriate.
Always provide accurate information during an application. An advance should only be considered when you can manage the repayment without leaving yourself unable to cover essential expenses.
Do you need payslips for a cash advance?
Not necessarily.
Some cash advance providers may request recent payslips, while others verify employment income using transaction information from the bank account where your wages are paid.
Payslips are not listed as part of our standard account setup requirements. Instead, we ask for details of your latest wage deposit and use bank transaction information to verify that you are employed and receiving regular wages.
For other providers, additional evidence may sometimes be necessary if income cannot be verified clearly.
The exact process will depend on the service you are considering.
Do you need bank statements for a cash advance?
You may not need to manually upload a PDF or paper bank statement, but a provider may still need access to your transaction history.
With us, bank transaction information is required as part of the assessment process. We cannot accept manual bank statements by email or fax because our system uses a digital bank connection.
When you connect your banking through our secure third-party provider, we receive transaction data rather than your banking login credentials.
Before giving any financial service access to banking information, make sure you understand who will receive the data and why it is required.
Do you need a credit report?
Requirements differ between financial services.
Traditional credit providers may make an enquiry with a credit reporting agency as part of their application processes.
With MyPayNow, we do not make a credit enquiry on your file with a credit reporting agency.
That does not mean there is no assessment.
We still assess information including your identity, employment income, bank transaction history, spending patterns and other relevant factors to determine whether you meet our criteria and whether our wage advance product is suitable and affordable.
A preparation checklist before you apply
Before starting a cash or wage advance application, it can help to check that you have:
Valid and current identification
Correct personal and contact details
Accurate information about your employment
Details of your latest wage deposit
Access to the bank account receiving your wages
Enough transaction history for the provider's assessment
An accurate understanding of your regular expenses
A clear understanding of the applicable fees and interest
A clear understanding of when repayment is due
Enough money remaining after repayment for essential living costs
You should also make sure you are using the genuine website or app before providing personal or financial information.
Look for clear privacy information, product terms and secure account access.
What information do you need to use MyPayNow?
We provide a wage advance service for eligible working Australian residents who want to request access to part of an upcoming wage before payday.
To set up an account with us, you will currently need:
Your mobile phone number
Your email address
A valid Australian open driver licence, Australian passport or Medicare card
The date and amount of your last wage deposit
Your internet banking details for our secure third-party connection process
The bank account where your regular salary is deposited
At least 70 days of transaction history in that account
You must also:
Be an Australian resident
Be at least 18 years old
Receive regular income from an employer
Meet our minimum employment income requirement
Meet our broader eligibility and assessment criteria
If you are approved, your advance limit is generally based on a quarter of your identified net pay, up to a maximum of $2,000.
Your individual limit is subject to our assessment and approval, and you may choose from preset amounts up to your approved limit.
You can learn more about the process in our how MyPayNow works guide or check our FAQs for current requirements.
Check the costs as well as the documents
Having the right information available does not tell you whether an advance is the right option for your circumstances.
Before requesting money, make sure you understand:
How much you want to access
The fee and interest that will apply
The total amount you will need to repay
Your scheduled repayment date
How repayment may affect your next pay cycle
What options are available if your circumstances change
Our current pricing is a 5% fee on the amount advanced, plus interest at 24% per annum on the outstanding balance. Interest is capped at 62 days.
For example, our current published pricing shows that a $100 advance held for seven days would involve a $5 fee and $0.48 in interest, for a total repayment of $105.48.
Always check our current product information and terms before requesting an advance, as fees, eligibility criteria and other conditions may change.
Consider alternatives before requesting an advance
A wage advance brings forward part of your upcoming income. That means you will have less of that pay available after the advance and associated costs are repaid.
Before requesting an advance, consider whether another option could work for your situation.
You might be able to:
Use available savings
Ask a bill provider for more time to pay
Request a payment plan
Delay a non-essential expense
Review your budget for temporary savings
Ask a service provider about hardship assistance
Check whether your employer provides relevant financial wellbeing support
If you are repeatedly running short before payday or are struggling to meet essential expenses, taking another advance may not address the underlying issue.

Frequently asked questions
Can I apply for a cash advance without identification?
A financial service will generally need to verify your identity before providing an advance.
With us, you need a valid Australian open driver licence, Australian passport or Medicare card. We do not currently accept proof of age cards or learner licences.
Can I get a cash advance without bank statements?
You may not always need to upload a conventional bank statement.
With us, you need to securely connect the bank account where your salary is paid so we can receive the transaction information required for our assessment. We do not accept manually submitted bank statements by email or fax.
Can Centrelink payments be used as proof of income?
Government benefits cannot be your only source of income when applying with us.

Does providing all the required information guarantee approval?
No.
Supplying the information we need allows us to assess your application, but it does not guarantee eligibility, approval or a particular advance limit.
Will you contact my employer?
No. We deal directly with you rather than contacting your employer.
We still need to be able to identify and verify regular employment income through the information provided during our assessment process.
Do you run a credit check?
We do not make a credit enquiry on your file with a credit reporting agency.
We do, however, carry out our own assessment using information including your employment income and relevant bank transaction data.
Prepare your information and review your options carefully
Valid Australian identification, verifiable employment income and access to the bank account receiving your wages are some of the key things you will need when creating an account with us.
But documentation is only one part of the decision.
Before requesting a wage advance, consider the full cost, repayment timing and how the repayment will affect the money available from your next pay.
If you think a wage advance may be appropriate for your circumstances, you can review our current MyPayNow eligibility and product FAQs and learn more about how our wage advance works before creating an account.
Any request remains subject to our eligibility criteria, assessment and approval.
